First Nations
The City of Greater Geelong is guided by the Local Government Act 2020 (Victoria), which strengthens relationships between councils and Traditional Owners and recognises them as essential partners in community planning, engagement and governance. We work with Traditional Owners, Registered Aboriginal Parties (RAPs) and Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs) as key partners in shaping our city. Our commitment is grounded in the four pillars of Relationships, Respect, Opportunities and Governance, which guide our Reconciliation journey and our work with First Nations communities.
Multicultural Geelong
Our community has been enriched by the presence of people from all over the world. Geelong is a multicultural city, home and a welcoming place to people from many countries. 17.7 percent of our total population of 271,065 were born overseas.
LGBTIQA+
Celebrate pride, diversity, and community—this is your colourful gateway to all things LGBTQIA+ in Geelong.
Asylum seekers and refugees
There is a great deal of confusion about the difference between an asylum seeker and a refugee and often the terms are used interchangeably or incorrectly.

Apply for a grant for your projects, programs and events and help us to help you improve the health and wellbeing of our community.
