This engagement is open

Date: Monday, 4 March 2019 to Friday, 19 April 2019

Lara Flood Study
Community Consultation Session

A detailed flood study for the Hovells Creek and Avalon Road Catchments has been underway since mid-2018. Since our last community engagement sessions in September 2018, the study team have been collating data and undertaking surveys to establish computer models that better understand the past and present flood risks in and around Lara.

Data collected from the previous community engagement sessions has helped to inform detailed flood mapping of a number of historic flood events including February 1973, December 1988, February 2005 and April 2017. Maps of computer modelled flood extents for each of the historic events are now available to view from this link.

The next phase of the study will be to use the models to undertake detailed flood mapping and investigate options to reduce and/or better manage the flooding risk. Once draft study results are available a further and final information session will also be held. This is expected to occur in June/July of this year.

The study team invite residents, business and property owners to come along to community consultation drop in sessions on the 28th of March to meet the project team, view the modelled historic flood maps and share their concerns or ideas regarding future floodplain management activities.
