In September 2017, we asked for your feedback about a proposed new design for Highton Village.

There were many different views on the original design, particularly the design of Belle Vue Avenue. We listened to your ideas and concerns and have prepared two options that incorporate this input.

This is your chance to have your say on the proposed alternatives.

Belle Vue Avenue - option 1

The original concept includes:

  • A public plaza on the east side of the street that retains the existing trees, provides raised seating areas, spaces for alfresco dining and street trading, as well as an informal play area for children.
  • Space for additional tree planting and garden beds to enhance the green feel of the village.
  • Cyclists sharing the road with cars in a low speed area.
  • Two-way traffic on the west side the existing median strip.
  • Removal of some on-street parking to allow space for the public plaza, additional trees and two-way traffic on the west side of the median strip.

The following modifications have been made following feedback:

  • Provide a space in the median strip to allow a north-bound vehicle to turn right into Taylor Court and Belle Vue Avenue.
  • The informal play area for children has been relocated further away from the edge of Belle Vue Avenue.

Belle Vue Avenue - option 2

The proposal includes:

  • A widened central median strip that retains existing trees and provides raised seating and green public space.
  • Space for additional tree planting and garden beds on footpaths to enhance the green feel of the village.
  • Additional space on both the east and west side of Belle Vue Avenue for pedestrians, alfresco dining and street trading.
  • Additional raised pedestrian crossings near the Amcal Chemist and Bon Appetit.
  • Bikes lanes.
  • Space for vehicles to circulate around the central median strip, similar to the existing road arrangement.
  • Space for the existing clock tower, or a new public art piece.
  • Removal of some on-street parking to allow space for pedestrians, alfresco dining, street trading, bike lanes and more green public space.
  • Parking next to shops on both sides of Belle Vue Avenue.
