A fire hazard can be any vegetation or other item that has the potential to burn.
Our Neighbourhood Amenity Local Law states that:
An owner or occupier of land must:
not allow the land to contain any thing which constitutes or is likely to constitute a fire hazard
between the months of April and October of any year maintain any vacant allotment in a built-up area by regular mowing to maximum height of 150 millimetres
During the fire season (November to March) vacant residential blocks are required to be maintained to a maximum height of 100 millimetres.

Fire hazards can be present in rural and residential areas on vacant allotments and in residential properties.
Council Fire Prevention officers conduct inspections across the region throughout the year.
Fire hazard notices
Each year, properties that are identified as having the potential to cause a fire hazard, such as vacant residential blocks, are served with a Fire Prevention Notice which directs that all properties must meet the specific requirements stated on the Fire Prevention Notice.
If the properties are not maintained to this standard, infringements are then issued and the fire hazard removed at the owner's expense.
Notices may now also be issued outside of the fire season when vacant residential properties do not meet requirements under the Neighbourhood Amenity Local Law. Failure to comply with a fire prevention notice will incur an infringement notice.
