A new civic precinct for Geelong

We are building a new civic precinct and meeting place for the people of Geelong at 137 Mercer Street in Geelong.

Mercer Street is uniquely and strategically positioned as a gateway into Geelong’s central business, retail, education and arts and cultural precincts.

Its close proximity to Geelong Railway Station, Deakin University and the new Convention Centre makes it an ideal ‘welcome corridor’ and meeting place for residents and visitors to our great city.

The precinct will be the home for local government in Geelong and is expected to include:

  • consolidated offices for 800 staff that will adapt and respond to future workforce needs
  • public spaces to be enjoyed by the community
  • street level retail and commercial activity to enhance local amenity.

The total budget for the precinct is $91 million and will be largely funded through the sale of surplus City assets.

We aim to further showcase our credentials as a UNESCO City of Design by building an iconic, inclusive and welcoming civic precinct the Geelong community can be proud of.

We will start community engagement on the new civic precinct in April 2019.
